The Apple advantage is that it controls the software stack, so our expectations are higher - we want a version of OS X designed around touch, not one with some added touch UI functionality. Obviously this is something Apple is working on, as other OEMs are focusing many resources on touch-enabled interfaces for PCs. Using three fingers to swipe works for going back, but you can't swipe forward here (see the greyed out forward arrow button in the top left of the Finder window) The swipe gesture only controls the forward/back buttons in Finder, it doesn’t actually control traversal of folders. If you’ve got a Finder window open in column view and want to go forward in the directory structure, you can’t unless you’ve previously been there. The latest example of this is the three finger swipe-to-navigate gesture. I'm rotating this image entirely using my fingers on the touchpadĪs I mentioned in the MacBook Air review, while I definitely appreciate the multi-touch features of the new notebooks (much more so than I expected actually) Apple is in dire need of better OS integration for the multi-touch gestures. You can even rotate images by making little rotate motions with your fingers when in Preview or iPhoto. You get scroll, right click and zoom functionality with the base MacBook's touchpad but no ability to rotate or swipe-to-navigate Three fingers and you can swipe back and forth to traverse your web or folder history (as well as pages in Preview). Two fingers on the trackpad will let you scroll up and down or left and right. The multi-touch surface itself isn’t quite as large as it is on the Air, but the functionality is the same. The MacBook Pro gets the same multi-touch technology from the MacBook Air’s trackpad. Another executive, Wei Chen, is in charge of many display technologies. His responsibilities are being divided up between multiple of Srouji’s direct reports, including Alan Gilchrist, who took over managing the company’s camera and depth sensor teams. Hotelling’s responsibilities are being split up between several other veteran executives on Srouji’s team. “No one was more brilliant than Steve,” another longtime colleague of Hotelling’s told Bloomberg. One source who worked with Hotelling and spoke with Bloomberg said that “outside of Apple’s chips efforts,” he was “the single greatest driver for innovation” at the company. In addition, Hotelling led depth-sensing technologies for augmented reality and work on components behind haptic feedback and ProMotion high-frame-rate displays. Apple has increasingly made photography one of the foremost selling points of its devices. Hotelling also oversaw the company’s camera engineering team and was involved in efforts to develop custom sensors. He’s also credited with helping invent the multitouch screen on the first iPhone and iPad. As Bloomberg explains, this ranged from the invention of Touch ID to advanced camera technology and ProMotion screen technologies. Over the years, however, Hotelling played a key role in some of Apple’s most significant innovations. At the time of his retirement, he was responsible for overseeing touchscreen technology, health sensors, and Face ID. Most recently, Hotelling served as a vice president at Apple, reporting to Johny Srouji, the company’s senior vice president of hardware technologies. Bloomberg reports that Steve Hotelling, who worked on key technologies like the iPhone’s multitouch screen, Touch ID, and Face ID, is retiring from Apple. A veteran Apple executive responsible for a myriad of features over the years is departing the company. 12/30/2023 0 Comments Proforma invoice dhl expressThis is important because when a shipment arrives at the destination it will undergo customs clearance and may be subject to customs inspection. When you start to ship internationally, not only do you have to deal with the logistics of getting your products to your customer, but you also have to navigate a complex web of customs regulations. This process can be complicated, and it is important to have the right documentation such as the customs invoice in order to avoid delays. 12/30/2023 0 Comments Pac man fever synthIt’s not the kind of thing you listen to for emotional comfort, per se, but the intoxicating way that they put all of the beats and riffs and layered vocals together certainly makes it go down easier. The backdrop of recent world events – most notably Brexit and the trend toward nationalism in European and American politics in recent years – appears to inform a number of their songs, though many of them are just abstractly stated enough that you could imagine them to be about any number of urgent issues. What immediately stands out as I dive into Everything Everything’s individual songs – catchy as most of them may be – is that they maintain an uneasy balance between catharsis and confrontation. Their fourth album, A Fever Dream, was released this summer, and it hasn’t taken very long at all for it to become one of the most-played and most-enjoyed 2017 releases in my iTunes library. Everything Everything just happens to pull their set of influences together in a more immediately engaging and intriguing way than I’ve heard from any of the other bands I’ve mentioned. These bands all probably share some common influences from the earlier days of indie rock, Britpop, and soul music. And the strong, at times almost overbearing falsetto vocals of lead singer Jonathan Higgs bear passing resemblance to Dougy Mandagi from The Temper Trap, an Australian transplant to the UK whose records I’ve enjoyed to varying degrees. (Have people tried to give me more of a heads up on these kinds of bands, and I’ve just been really dense about it? Who knows.) However, due to the way these guys work R&B influences into their music, I also hear pretty strong reminders of TV on the Radio, an American band I’ve followed for a few albums now but never fully fallen in love with. Listening to them in their current incarnation, I hear a fair amount of similarities to another Manchester-based band, Doves, who also had a bit of a rhythmic/dance background underpinning their brand of indie rock, and who I didn’t get into until they were on album #4. Somehow they’ve managed to get four albums under their belt before showing up on my radar – I guess you could blame some of that on them being from across the pond, but it’s not like physical distance has much of an effect on which bands I hear about in a day and age where I can stream pretty much anything at a moment’s notice. They’re the kind of band that has pretty immediate appeal for me – an indie/art rock outfit with a strong focus on rhythm and some insanely catchy riffs and choruses. I’m kind of bummed that I hadn’t heard of the band Everything Everything until this year. In Brief: With relentless, hypnotic rhythms, hypnotic guitar and synth melodies that sear into your brain, and politically-charged lyrics, Everything Everything has, well, just about everything I’ve been hoping to get out of an indie rock record in the year 2017. 12/30/2023 0 Comments Mario 3d all stars targetYou're arguing that they don't release loads of re-releases to not oversaturate the market, during a gen they have re-released almost their entire last gen catalogue. Saying that they play the long game whole western devs play the quarterly game.Īnd it doesn't change the fact that these game are being removed when there's no reason to remove them. That's why Nintendo, and pretty much only Nintendo, can sell you almost straight ports of Wii U, Wii, GC, and even N64 games for £50, where every body else sells their remasters for a lower price. Which then promotes further sales, even after the sale price has ended.Īnd Nintendo keeping their game prices high actually over inflates their perceived worth. That means that the best way to promote your game and be seen is to drop those prices to be included in the most played sections. The reason you see sale wars on eShop is because Nintendo are just god awful at curation on the store. The problems you highlighted of exposure and product value are nearly exclusively a Nintendo problem. Like having all the RE games on Switch be £50-&60 each. You can't really argue that game prices shouldn't drop, unless you are also going to argue that every game should maintain its original launch price. And once initial sales have been made, and the sales drop, they drop the price to boost sales and maintain revenue again. And normally games are priced to maximise sales, not keep a product's value high. It doesn't matter if you sell 100k copies at £50 or 1m at £5. A dev isn't concerned about their product being cheap, they are concerned about turning a profit. The reason most games get price drops is continued revenue.
12/29/2023 0 Comments Top rated black mirror episodesThis chilling tale set in a fog-swept Scottish village, with its lack of cellphone service and stacks of VHS tapes, feels downright Luddite for a Black Mirror episode. It’s fun while it lasts, but ultimately a little empty - kind of like a lot of Netflix shows we’ve binged over the years. But Joan’s quest eventually turns into a silly caper that becomes head-spinningly meta, to the point where we can’t even be sure what we’re seeing is real. It’s a clever concept that takes on our current binge-watch culture and the terrifying implications of artificial intelligence, and Murphy is backed up by a flurry of celebrity cameos. (It even has the “tudum” sound and everything.) The show-within-a-show stars Salma Hayek and exposes Joan’s innermost secrets to everyone in her life, ruining her relationships and sending her on a panicked quest to stop the series from airing. Grade: C-plusįirst of all: Did Netflix approve this? Black Mirror takes a big old bite out of the hand that hosts it in this wild installment, starring Schitt’s Creek alum Annie Murphy as Joan, an ordinary woman who discovers her life has been turned into a prestige TV show on a Netflix-esque streamer called Streamberry. Still, the gory conclusion might leave you feeling slightly queasy… like you just scrolled through TMZ for five straight hours. This episode doesn’t have anything particularly original to say about seedy tabloid journalism, and the whole thing feels pretty underwhelming - until it takes a bizarre supernatural turn that transforms it into an old-fashioned monster movie. She doesn’t feel great about her line of work, but the promise of a huge payday puts her on a collision course with a troubled starlet who’s freshly AWOL from the set of her latest movie. This punchy installment takes us back to the Us Weekly heyday of 2006, with Atlanta‘s Zazie Beetz playing a paparazzo stalking celebrities in sunny Hollywood. Add in a wildly bleak ending that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, and we’re not sure this mission should’ve even been attempted. But with a languorous 80-minute running time (the longest of the season), it’s all a bit sleepy and sterile, giving us plenty of time to predict the inevitable plot developments before they happen. The period setting gives the tale a vintage vibe with a sci-fi kick, and the production design is impeccable. But of course, there’s a twist: The astronauts have robotic replicas of themselves living their lives on earth while they’re in space, and an unspeakable tragedy leads to a thorny ethical dilemma about the true meaning of identity. So which ones should you watch first? And which ones should you steer clear from entirely? Read on to get our take on all five Season 6 episodes, ranked and graded, and then once you’ve watched, hit our poll below to tell us your favorite episode of the season.Īt first, this episode feels like a Space Race throwback in the vein of For All Mankind, with Aaron Paul and Josh Hartnett playing 1960s astronauts on a mission in space. Season 6 still has the big-name stars and stunning twists we’ve come to expect - but actually, the two most satisfying episodes are the least star-studded, the most thoroughly British and the least reliant on high-tech shockers.Īs always with Black Mirror, Season 6 is a mixed bag, with a couple of duds and a couple of gems on the roster. In fact, most of Season 6’s five episodes are set in the past, before smartphones took over our lives, and that storytelling freedom allows series creator Charlie Brooker to expand on the idea of what a Black Mirror episode can be. Netflix’s creepy sci-fi anthology has returned with new episodes for the first time in four years, and Season 6 breaks free of a lot of the “evil technology” clichés we associate with the series. Black Mirror is back… but it might look a little different than the Black Mirror you remember. |
